DISCIPLINE
Discipline as a survival strategy offers a sense of control even though it can consume our daily existence. The survival systems are empowering as we rely on them for order but they can harm us just as easily. The vulnerable, organic, porcelain interior is being either held together or held hostage by the tightly wound string seemingly offering some control. Almost hidden behind the string, the slightly lifted and curved, centrally located area simultaneously protects and isolates with the added plaster layer. In this self portrait, a sought after balance is seen through the enormous emotional complexity of trying to regulate our systems of survival.
